How Email Notifications Work

The Advanced Queues Email Notification System provides automatic email alerts when job queues encounter errors. This helps administrators and responsible users stay informed about issues without constantly monitoring the system.

Notification Process

When a job queue encounters an error, the following process takes place:

  1. The system detects the error in the job queue execution.
  2. If the queue has automatic restart enabled, it will reschedule the job.
  3. The system checks if there are any configured recipients for this specific queue.
  4. For each recipient, the system:
    • Verifies their preferred language setting
    • Formats the email according to that language
    • Sends the notification using the configured email account

Email Content

The notification email contains detailed information about the error, including:

  • Error message and description
  • Environment name and company information
  • Direct link to the job queue entry
  • Detailed table with:
    • Job queue description
    • Parameter string
    • Error date and time
    • Error message
    • Additional information
    • Call stack for technical users
  • Information about automatic rescheduling
  • Link to documentation with common issues and fixes

Notification Interval Logic

To prevent email flooding when a job queue repeatedly fails:

  • The system tracks when the last notification was sent for each queue
  • New notifications are only sent after the configured notification interval has elapsed
  • This ensures that recipients are informed about persistent issues without receiving too many emails

Email Log

The system maintains a log of sent email notifications in the N24AQ Sent E-mail Log table. This helps track:

  • When notifications were sent
  • Which job queue generated the notification
  • Ensuring that duplicate notifications aren't sent within the configured interval

Recipient Management

The email notification system supports:

  • Multiple recipients per job queue
  • Different language preferences for each recipient
  • Company-wide default recipients for new queues
  • Mass assignment of recipients across multiple queues

Intercompany Support

For organizations with multiple companies in Business Central:

  • You can view recipient configurations across all companies
  • The Error Email Recipients Qty field shows how many recipients are configured for each queue
  • The Error Email Recipients factbox allows quick management of recipients without switching companies
