Automatic Reading of Depreciation Start Date

In the fixed assets list, the depreciation start date is automatically read. For this purpose, two additional fields have been added to the list:

  • Depreciation Start Date
  • Disposed Of (indicating whether the fixed asset has been removed)

Depending on the fulfillment of the conditions below, the appropriate date is assigned to the item on the list:

  • If the Default Depreciation Book field is filled in on the Fixed Assets Settings page and this book is assigned to the given fixed asset, the date appropriate for this book is assigned.
  • If the above field is unfilled or the book is not assigned to the selected fixed asset, the date of the first entry in the fixed asset card is assigned.

Examples and Scenarios

Scenario: Posting a red storno correction

Need: An accountant needs to post a transaction correction in storno form (a negative entry on the same side of the account, not on the opposite side). Standard BC doesn't offer this directly in the general journal.

Steps:

  1. Open the General Journal.
  2. Create a correction line with the appropriate account and amount.
  3. Mark the line as Red Storno.
  4. Post the journal.

Result: The entry appears as a negative on the original side (e.g., negative debit instead of a credit). The trial balance report shows the correction in a manner compliant with local accounting requirements.

Scenario: Quick view of depreciation dates on the fixed assets list

Need: A controller wants to quickly review the fixed assets list and see when each asset started depreciating, without opening each card individually.

How it works:

  1. Open the Fixed Assets List.
  2. Additional columns are visible on the list: Depreciation Start Date and Disposed Of.
  3. The system automatically retrieves the date from the default depreciation book (or from the first entry if no default is set).

Result: The controller sees depreciation dates and disposal status for all fixed assets on a single screen. They can sort and filter the list without opening individual cards.
