Item Data Control
Protection against changing:
- Inventory Posting Group,
- Gen. Prod. Posting Group,
- VAT Prod. Posting Group
When Item Ledger Entries already exist.
Examples and Scenarios
Scenario: Protection against accidental posting group change on an item
Need: An accountant noticed that someone changed the Gen. Prod. Posting Group on an item that already had transactions. This caused discrepancies in postings. The company wants the system to automatically block such changes.
How it works:
- Item PROD-100 has posting group GOODS and has entries in the item ledger.
- A user tries to change the Gen. Prod. Posting Group to SERVICES.
- The system displays an error message and blocks the change.
Result: Item posting groups cannot be changed if ledger entries already exist. This ensures consistency of historical postings and eliminates the risk of discrepancies between the inventory account and entries.
Tip
If a posting group change is truly necessary (e.g., correction after implementation), consult an administrator first — the change requires zeroing entries or creating a new item card.
