⚙️ Setup - Inventory Rotation
This guide describes how to configure the system before using the Inventory Rotation module.
Prerequisites
Before using the Inventory Rotation report for the first time, you need to configure:
- Transfer Routes - between locations
- Transfer Units of Measure - for items with packaging (optional)
- Custom Availability Templates - if using custom rules (optional)
Transfer Routes Configuration
Transfer routes define allowed transfer paths between locations.
How to Configure
- Search in Business Central: Transfer Routes
- Set the appropriate in-transit location for pairs of source and destination locations
Important: Without a configured route, you cannot create a transfer order from the report.
Transfer Unit of Measure Configuration
If items are transferred in packaging (boxes, pallets, crates), define a transfer unit of measure for each item.
Configuration Steps
- Open the Item Card for the relevant item
- Navigate to the N24I Inventory Rotation group
- Fill in the Transfer Unit of Measure field
Configuration Example
For an item transferred in boxes of 12:
- Transfer Unit of Measure =
BOX - Qty. per Unit of Measure =
12
Benefits
When a transfer unit is defined:
- The report displays Transfer UOM Code and Qty. per Transfer UOM
- You can enter quantities in base units or transfer units
- The system automatically converts between units
- Validation ensures quantities are evenly divisible (e.g., you cannot transfer 15 items if boxes contain 12)
Usage Example
If an item is transferred in boxes of 12:
- Entering Qty. to Order (Transfer UOM) =
5automatically sets Quantity to Order =60 - Entering Quantity to Order =
24automatically sets Qty. to Order (Transfer UOM) =2 - Entering Quantity to Order =
25will show a warning (not divisible by 12, remainder: 1)
Custom Availability Templates Integration
If you have configured Custom Availability Templates in Advanced Inventory settings, the report can use custom availability calculations instead of the default method.
Default Availability Calculation
Availability = Physical Inventory + Open Purchase Orders - Open Sales Orders
With Custom Templates
You can define your own availability calculation rules based on your business needs.
Configuration details can be found in the Custom Availability module documentation.
Permissions
The Inventory Rotation module requires the N24I Inventory Rotation permission set, which is also included in the N24I Administrative permission (full access).
Make sure users have appropriate permissions before starting work with the report.
Next Steps
After completing the configuration, proceed to the How It Works guide to learn how to use the Inventory Rotation report.
